Following yesterdays rant at all things newspaper, and Muslim, its an opportune moment to tell, once again, the story of The Arabs…

Its the cool and trendy 1980’s, early 1980’s, punk still hasn’t quite left us yet but all over the country musicians are starting to favour the mullet haircut and brightly coloured jackets with the sleeves rolled up, wayfarer sun glasses are de rigueur.

My now (but not then) famous guitarist cousin Ray is still searching for two ha’pennies to scratch his arse with, he’s been a professional guitarist for several years by the time the 80’s come around and so far fame and fortune have eluded him unless you count that brief flirtation with the charts when The Squares released their one hit wonder “Buddy Holly”.

What do you mean you’ve never heard of the song “Buddy Holly”, or The Squares come to think of it ?

OK, so the charts were our own Leeds version of the charts compiled by Mr Kennedy of Kennedy’s record shop on The Headrow, and yes, Ray bought most of his own singles that week to make the bottom end of the top 100 in Kennedy’s shop, and yes, I bought one too.
