Empty tank and the bears arrive

A quick sum up of yesterday.

I needed diesel in the car, desperately, the car had needed diesel in it for three days now but what with all the snow and suchlike I couldn’t be bothered.

So it reached yesterday morning and the computer thing on the dashboard was flashing like crazy and telling me that I needed to refuel within 12 miles, or else.

By the time I had dropped Jodie off at work at her Saturday job  (about one mile away – on saturday she is Dry Cleaner Girl) it had dropped to  zero miles, the car was now screaming at me to put some diesel in. We have a fuel account at Morrisons, the nearest one was at least three miles away, I just hoped that the nice people at Ford allowed a little tolorance when designing their fuel measuring thing.

They have apparently allowed at least three miles tolorance when the fuel tank is empty, I managed to reach Morrisons by coasting on the downhill bits and barely touching the accelerator on the uphill bits, it annoyed the driver behind me but 20mph is a good speed on a Saturday morning anyway.

So a full tank then, £71 worth of diesel which is about £18 cheaper than it was through the summer, for the colonialists thats a Ford Mondeo not some huge huge truck with a 400 gallon tank, its just a normal family saloon, £71 to fill it – about $105 at todays rate, still, its nice to sit back in the car and see the message “630 miles to empty”.

So I go home, hang a new door on the inside of the outside porch, and then its suddenly “that time of year” again – the time to bring the christmas decorations down from the loft, and in particular the Wizard of Oz bears.

Here they are now sitting in the corner of my desk waiting to appear shortly in a pantomime somewhere near you.

  1. We are all children at heart!! I have bears everywhere.. a basket full, and ones that sit looking at me..sometimes I think they smile :) “Vanilla Tea” &”Sugar Lump”

  2. Somehow, Gary, I’ve never pictured you an Oz fan.

  3. I found the bears on eBay four or five years ago and thought they looked stupid enough to become a christmas tradition in our household, as for the film, I usually get as far as the bit where it turns to colour before falling asleep.

  4. Gary, How much is a gallon of petrol now around Leeds? I paid $1.58 per gallon this morning. At one point three months ago I paid over $5.

  5. Diesel has just today dropped slightly below £1 a litre which is £4.55 per imperial gallon (slightly less than a US gallon)
