Video Saturday – Spike Milligan

A clip that will be meaningless to anyone not of these shores, for they will ask, “What is a Pakistani Dalek ?”

A clip that will be meaningless to anyone who didn’t spend their childhood in the 1960s in the UK, for they will ask, “Where is the joke ?”

A clip that will be offensive for anyone raised on 1990′s political correctness, for they will say “Its offensive to those of Pakistani descent, and Daleks”

And yet, to those of us who were there, the Pakistani Dalek sketch on Spike Milligans “Q” show is now a thing of folklore, like the Kennedy assassination, dear Saint Princess Diana, Queen of Hearts death from not wearing a seatbelt when in the company of a drunk driver, we remember exactly where we were when we first saw the Pakistani Dalek sketch.

It would be around 5.20pm, a Thursday, Spike Milligans “Q” series of childrens shows, yes such awfully politically incorrect productions such as this passed as mere childrens entertainment back in the day – a message for all colonials, if you want to know where the English sense of humour was developed, here is your answer – unfortunately it won’t be passed on to the current generation for they have to watch crappy computer generated Japanese cartoons  instead.
