This weekend we venture to this place
To play golf, two rounds over two days, one night in the hotel, all meals provided, very reasonable price.
To play golf, its worth repeating.
I haven’t played golf for at least four years, I did go to the driving range two years ago for one session but since then my golf clubs have languished in the garage somewhere, in fact I have now reminded myself that I had better go and find them today.
I don’t know if I have any golf balls left, or a glove, or any of the other accoutrements that your average fancy-dan golfer needs, I don’t know what the golfing fashion is this year, will my loud-check trousers still fit in, would it be a terrible faux-pas to wear plus-fours and two tone shoes with a big leather tassel on the front ?
Its a trip, nay a pilgrimage that we all used to make every year, several years ago. Chris was the driving force for he was an unusual golfer in that he could actually play the game to a recognised standard and was a member at one of the top golf clubs in our area, indeed the country – the rest of us just followed him around the course hacking away occasionally and laughing at each other.
This weekend has been organised by Andy, resident soppy big lad who wanted to do this as a memorial, Well Andy, as long as we are not expecting any of us to actually complete the first round without being asked to leave the course and be handed our money back, then I think it will go fine, frankly I am expecting nothing more than a total disaster on the golf front and I predict that I will spend most of the weekend playing my golf from all of those many bunkers – again.
Throw into the mix that its snowed again this week and now it is currently lashing it down with rain, the forecast for the weekend is daytime temperatures of zero degrees and more snow on Sunday and I’m now wondering if I threw my waterproofs out and/or how old those golf shoes of mine are, are they still waterproof, will they split when I try to tie the laces, do they have spikes fitted, will they accept spikes at this time of year, its all too much, I shall just turn up and see what happens.
I fear the worst though.
