My posh Auntie Doris awakes this morning in a nursing home still unaware that her husband of 60-odd years died back in February, she is frightened by visitors as she just doesn’t recognise them, not even the close family, her home is the four walls of her nursing home single bed room rather than the palace of a three bed semi detached that she kept so immaculately for the whole of her adult life, she struggles to acknowledge her own daughter who visits constantly anyway despite being greeted with bewilderment most days.
I freely admit with a morsel of guilt that I haven’t been to visit her, not even once.
